The Doane Stuart School is a coeducational, nursery through grade

pastoral 80-acre campus in Albany, NY. As the nation’s only
successfully merged Protestant-Catholic school, Doane Stuart stands as
an unique model for interfaith education in America. Founded in 1975,
Doane Stuart was created from the merger of the Roman Catholic Kenwood
Academy of the Sacred Heart (founded in 1852) and the Episcopal St.
Agnes School (founded in 1870).
The mission of Doane Stuart is education. In a college-preparatory
context, where the joy of discovery is valued, Doane Stuart emphasizes
serious study, educates to social responsibility, and lays the
foundation for a strong faith. With 280 students, Nursery through
Grade 12, Doane Stuart is small by intent and small by design,
claiming a premier college-preparatory program and unique partnerships
with many organizations in its home community and beyond – including
Lagan College in Belfast (the first integrated school in Northern
Ireland, welcoming both Protestant and Catholic students), the
University at Albany (the region’s largest research university), the
Albany College of Pharmacy (affording Doane Stuart students premedical
and prepharmacological study and research), the Albany Institute of
History and Art, and the Arts Center of the Capital Region.
Twenty percent of our most recent senior classes have been recognized
with National merit standing. The combined SAT average is over 200
points above the national average and over 100 points above the
independent school average. College acceptance lists include schools
such as Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, University of Chicago, and
Wesleyan, and our students perform exceptionally well at the most
selective colleges.
Education at Doane Stuart extends beyond the classroom. Through a
variety of extracurricular activities, such as interscholastic sports,
clubs, students government, and enrichment programs, student learn
leadership and teamwork skills, take positive risks, and gain
self-confidence in a coeducational setting.
